What the Half-Head Covers
A half-head loc extension install attaches extension locs to the top or upper half of the head to add visible length while leaving the lower natural locs untouched. Final coverage depends on your existing loc count, thickness, and the targeted length; the same top-heavy layout can look different from client to client because natural hair and loc spacing vary.
Because only the top area is being extended, this service is suited to clients wanting added length or volume above the crown without a full-head installation. The amount of extension hair and the number of attachments you need are confirmed after a photo consultation that assesses your current locs and desired aesthetic.
Installation Process and Timing
Studio 818 installs the extensions by attaching prepared loc pieces to the specified top/half-head area; note that extension hair is not included in the listed installation price. Appointments for this service are scheduled for 330 MINUTES to allow for placement, blending, and adjustments so the extensions sit naturally with your existing locs.
Many Sherman Oaks clients book these longer appointments around commuting schedules or weekend plans — the studio is on the Ventura Boulevard corridor near the Sherman Oaks Galleria, which makes after-work or mid-morning visits convenient for locals. Bring any reference photos and plan for the full appointment time so the stylist can complete the installation without interruption.
Consultation, Sizing and Pricing
A photo consultation is required to confirm how much top/half-head coverage you need, your natural loc type, loc count, size, and desired extension length before a final quote is given. The studio provides an AI-generated size reference (left to right): medium 0.8 cm, small 0.6 cm, extra-small 0.4 cm, micro 0.2 cm, ultra-fine 0.1 cm; the image is illustrative and not to scale.
Installation starts at $695; that price covers the attachment service only and does not include extension hair. After your photo review the stylist will provide a final quote reflecting the number of extensions required, chosen loc size, and any additional work needed to blend or prep your natural locs for attachment.
